Kakching, March 08 2022:
BJP Chandel district has said that NPF workers are the ones who caused troubles during polling in Tengnoupal and Chandel A/C and not BJP supporters.
Speaking to media persons at its Molnoi office on Tuesday, BJP Chandel district president Sk Angshel Lamkang condemned the baseless allegations levelled against their workers by NPF workers of Tengnoupal A/C through the media.
Workers of BJP maintained peace and calm during the recent election but NPF workers indulged in violence in Tengnoupal and Chandel assembly constituencies, he asserted.
Regarding the violent incident that took place on February 25 at Kharou Khullen where seven people were badly beaten up and 20 vehicles damaged, Angshel said that the incident occurred as NPF workers began confronting workers of independent and INC candidates.
Moreover, the news about abduction of K Tuisen village chairman by NPF workers was known only through media report, he continued.
Many NPF workers are in Tengnoupal police custody as they were involved in violent incident on the day of polling.
No BJP workers were involved in such incident.
Election was conducted without even sending polling agents of BJP in six polling stations of Tengnoupal A/C namely Rilram Centre, Machi, Konaitong, Momlo Ringpam, Kambang Khullen and Saibol as they knew that there will be no BJP votes in the said polling stations.
In Chandel A/C also, BJP did not cause any trouble in the election.
All the untoward incidents were caused by NPF workers, he contended, while highlighting several violent incidents by NPF workers including burning of BJP flags, abduction and thrashing of village chief and vandalising of vehicles among others.
BJP Chandel district vice president M Haokip said that the NPF demanded re-poll in some polling stations of Tengnoupal assembly constituency on realising that they will lose the election.
Conducting re-poll or not lies only in the hands of ECI, he reasoned.
The vice president further refuted the allegations about using militant groups by BJP in the election as unfounded and baseless.
