AMAWOVA
All Manipur Women's Voluntary Association (AMAWOVA) observed International Women's Day under the theme "Let us carry the struggle forward" at JN Manipur Dance Academy, Khoyathong.
Prof Dr Koijam Shantibala, HoD Psychiatric Department, JNIMS; Soraisham Memcha, vice president Poirei Leimarol Meria Paibeen Apunba Manipur and Y Kunjarani, president AMAWOVA were the chief guest, guest of honour and president of the observance.
On the occasion, Y Kunjarani said that the genuine issues of the State could never be solved without collective efforts from all.
Saying that the consequence of drug abuse and crime against women is extensive and has multiple effects, Kunjarani maintained that the role of women in confronting these issues is significant.
The women of Manipur were also at the forefront in combating the Covid pandemic, she added.
She continued that crime against women is connected with drug and substance abuse in some ways and as such putting substantial efforts on drug demand reduction is imperative.
Social scientist Dr Dhanabir Laishram and Dr K Indra Kumar of GP Women College too attended the programme.
Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD), Imphal, organised International Women's Day under the Theme: "Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow" in hybrid mode, today.
This programme was organized to commemorate the achievements of women in the areas of cultural, political, science and technology, medicine etc.
and also to accelerate women's equality, said a statement issued by IBSD.
The programme was participated by more than 250 participants comprising scientists, students,
researchers etc.
Prof Pulok K Mukherjee, Director IBSD highlighted various activities taken up by IBSD for societal benefits to improve the socio economic conditions of the region.
He also congratulated and appreciated the role of women in building up the society.
In this programme, resource persons, Dr Neeta Mahesekar, Director, North Eastern Institute of Ayurveda & Homeopathy, Meghalaya; Victoria Yengkhom, Commanding Officer, 2nd Manipur Rifles; Prof GA Shantibala Devi, former Professor and Dean, School of Life Sciences, Manipur University and Homila Hongrei, Director, Science and Technology, Govt.of Manipur participated and delivered talks in connection with gender equality and the role of women in nation building.
Dr W Mohendro Singh, Administrative Officer (i/c) of IBSD appreciated the role carried out by the women scientists and staff of IBSD, Imphal.
The programme was coordinated by Dr H Sunitibala and Dr S Indira Devi, scientists of IBSD, Imphal.
Bharat Vikas Parishad, Manipur Prant, Kanglei Ima Lup (KIL), Imphal; Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM), World Vision, Imphal, Wild Forest Institute of Skill Development, All Manipur Trade Unions' Council, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Imphal East and Imphal East district administration and One Stop Centre too observed the day.
