26 FIRs filed for MCC violation

In accordance with the complaints filed by various political parties to the Election Commission of India (ECI) citing violation of Covid-19 protocols and Model Code of Conduct (MCC) during the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly election, the Commission has registered 26 FIRs against different parties for MCC violation.
Interestingly, no FIR has been registered against any political party in the state for violation of Covid-19 protocols.
According to a report from the CEO Manipur, 26 FIRs were registered against different political parties for violating MCC but none for violation of Covid-19 protocols.
Although the state suffered tremendously during the second wave of Covid pandemic, the zero number of Covid 19 cases in the third wave has shown that the state is faring well compared to its peers.
The CEO emphasised that in addition to the masses being well informed about the pandemic, the political parties and the public strictly adhered to the protocols.
During the course of the election to the state assemblies in the five states, namely Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Manipur, Goa and Uttarakhand, the commission has registered around 2,270 FIRs.
Among these, Uttar Pradesh recorded the highest number of FIRs filed at 1700, of which 464 are for Covid-19 violation and 1,236 for MCC violation.
The majority of the FIRs were filed against Samajwadi Party, followed by BJP.
Meanwhile, 93 FIRs were filed in Uttarakhand for violation of Covid-19 protocols, 48 in Goa, and none in Manipur and Punjab.
Regarding the violation of MCC, 300 FIRs were filed in Uttarakhand, 104 in Punjab, 106 in Goa and 26 in Manipur.
