Khoupum area residents hold candlelight vigil

Noney, June 14 2026: A candlelight vigil was organised on Saturday evening by the Steering Committee Khoupum Area Village Volunteers (SC-KAVV) at Guanghpungbut, a historic customary court site and the memorial of freedom fighter Haipou Jadonang in Khoupum Valley, Noney district.

The programme began with a candlelight march from Khoupum Bazaar to Guanghpungbut, where hundreds of residents gathered to express solidarity and mourn the killing of six individuals at Lailon Vaiphei village on May 13, 2026.The participants strongly condemned the alleged brutal killing and mutilation of the victims, terming the incident inhumane and unacceptable.

During the vigil, the gathering raised several demands, including the delivery of justice to the victims and their families, abrogation of the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement with KNF (P), identification and arrest of all those responsible for the killings, and exemplary punishment of the culprits in accordance with the law.
