Veteran social worker Khangembam Keina Leima passes away at relief camp

Imphal, June 14 2026:
Ima Khangembam Keina Leima, 97, wife of late Khangenbam Thambalngou Meetei of Moreh Khongnangthaba Leikai, passed away at 10:30 pm on June 12, 2026, at Kodompokpi Sport Complex Relief Camp, Wangjing.
Displaced by the May 3, 2023 violence, Ima Keina had been residing in the relief camp since.
She died due to an illness.
A respected community leader, she served as secretary and president of Kha Nongpok Apunba Nupi Lup, Moreh, and led Moreh Handloom Silk & Weavers Co-operative Society Ltd, working to uplift women's economy in Moreh.
She was also deeply involved in the annual Ima Kondong Lairembi Haraoba and contributed to several public welfare initiatives in Moreh.
Expressing deep sorrow, 20 organisations including AMKIL, Nupi Samaj, Tammi Chingmi, NLANL, NIMPAL.
