Seven arrested with contraband drugs

Imphal, March 26 2022:
A team of Imphal East police narcotics cell nabbed two men and recovered 103gm of Heroin powder from their possession.
The captives have been identified as Vareithing Kasom (32) son of Nagadangmi Kasom of Lamkang Centre, Chandel and Md Altaf (19) son of Md Asta Ali of Santhel Mayai Leikai.
According to a police source, a team of Imphal East narcotics cell led by OC inspector Kh Devkumar and comprising executive magistrate conducted frisking at Kyamgei Pal Ahanbi under the supervision of SP Imphal East M Pradeep from 3.30 pm on Saturday.
During the frisking, Vareithing Kasom was nabbed and recovered 103gm of Heroin from his possession.
Meanwhile, a team of Narcotics and Affairs of Border (NAB) nabbed two persons and recovered 7kg opium from their possession Friday.
The nabbed people are identified as AS Thanreimung (21) son of AS Mahai of Khamasom and AS Nathan (30) son of late AS Khawung of Ukhrul.
Both of them were nabbed during a search operation conducted on Friday at Mantripukhri bus stand.
A joint team of Thoubal commando unit and NAB PS led by Thoubal Addl SP (Ops) O Wangkhomba also arrested two smugglers along with brown sugar from Hayel Loubuk area on Friday.
According to a police report, the team conducted search operation around 6:30 pm acting on reliable information that drugs are being smuggled from Imphal to Hayel Loubuk area.
During the search, the team intercepted a Tata DI (AS21C6463) driven by one Md Sahir Khan (35) s/o (L) Md Abdul Rashid of Khurai Khomidok at Hayel Loubuk.
On searching the vehicle, the team found 50 soap cases containing suspected brown sugar weighing 644 gram hidden in five paddy sacks.
Md Sahir was arrested after observing formalities.
Further, a follow up operation was conducted by the combined team and arrested two other persons namely Md Abdul Kadir (37) s/o Md Abdul Nasid of Khabeisoi Mayai Leikai and Md Nawaz Khan (27) s/o Md Islauddin of Lilong Dam from Canchipur Pal Ahanbi area around 9 pm on the same day.
The arrested persons and seized items were handed over to Thoubal PS for further necessary action, the report said.
