While both the man and his wife survived and are undergoing treatment, the two children have succumbed to the injuries.
The man has been identified as Chingtham Surjitkumar(42) and the wife as Chingtham Ongbi Abesana (36), while their deceased kids have been identified as Poireinganbi (4) and Diamond (2).Abesana suffered injuries on her abdomen and left hand and is currently admitted to Raj Medicity, while Surjitkumar is undergoing treatment at ICU of RIMS.
Recounting the incident, Surjit-kumar's elder brother Ruhikanta said that Surjitkumar started behaving strangely in the past few days, hallucinating the presence of people.
The family did not know what to do except coaxing him (Surjitkumar) to sleep.
On Saturday morning, suspecting that Surjitkumar might have been possessed by evil spirits, Ruhikanta went and got a shaman, who confirmed the family's conjecture.
The shaman advised them to bring Surjitkumar to his shrine.
Ruhikanta then went to contact another elder of the locality well-versed in shamanism and returned home only to find that his younger brother had stabbed his (Surjitkumar) family.
Meanwhile, according to the police, the incident occurred around 7am on Saturday.
Surjitkumar allegedly bludgeoned his kids with a hammer first and then stabbed them to death.
He also stabbed his wife, before slitting his own throat and abdomen.
On receiving news of the incident, a team of Lamphel police station rushed to the scene and took stock of the situation.
The team evacuated the injured Abesana to Raj Medicity and Surjitkumar to RIMS Hospital for treatment.
However, the two children succumbed to their injuries.
The bodies of the two children were taken to RIMS Morgue where post mortem examinations were carried out on Saturday, but their bodies are yet to be collected from the mortuary.
It is yet to be ascertained why Surjitkumar committed the crime.
