Kangpokpi, March 26 2022:
Incessant rain during the last two days resulted in a massive mudslide at Lamlenkon near Tujang Vaichong in Kangpokpi district.
Lamlenkon which is about 37 kms from Kang-pokpi district headquarters was also the site of another massive mudslide in August last year wherein more than 30 hectares of paddy fields and 300 metres of the highway were swept away by the mudslide.
The heavy rainfall in the area during the last couple of days has raised the level of Irang river.
The rising flood almost swept away a Maruti Gypsy which was ferrying a medical team but were rescued by the locals of Tujang Vaichong.
The heavy mudslide also trapped three/four passengers and private vehicles but were rescued by the locals with the help of an excavator.

Enock Kipgen, president KSO Twilang Block president's call for aid was res- ponded by Minister Awangbow Newmai and DC Kangpokpi Kengoo Zuringla.
Speaking to media, Enock Kipgen said that owing to the heavy mudslides this morning, Twilang area was completely cut off while many vehicles were stranded along the road.
He also called upon the Government to find a permanent solution to the issue to prevent such natural calamities in future.
If such a disaster could happen after just two or three days of rain, what would be the fate of more than 20,000 residents of Twilang during the monsoon season, he asserted.
Unfortunately, compensation for the affected paddy fields from the last landslide is yet to be delivered while the farmers are reeling under tremendous hardships, he added.
It may be recalled that the Chief Minister's Facebook post over the last massive landslide at Lamlenkon had invited a wide range of condemnation from all sections as it reportedly hurt the sentiment of the people when the CM allegedly blamed deforestation and poppy cultivation for the massive mudslide instead of finding a permanent solution to address the people's grievances.
