Loumee Lup seeks support to strike call

Stating that the two-day nation-wide general strike being called by Central Trade Union Organisation and Samyukta Kishan Morcha on March 28 and 29 is for securing the future of common people and the country, Manipur Shillang Loumee Lup has appealed to the people of the state to support the general strike.
Addressing a press meet at Irawat Bhawan here on Saturday, vice-president of the organisation W Radha said that the values of democracy are being challenged ever since BJP's Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister of the country.
Several people have been jailed for criticising the government and its policies while the government is working in favour of some corporate groups.
The new labour codes are another blow to the rights of the working class as it has reduced the labourers to the level of bonded labourers, she said.
As the country, especially the working class including the migrant workers are facing tough situation in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, increasing price of fuel and essential commodities is impacting their lives, additionally.
At the same time, privatisation of PSUs, which is one of the major backbones of the country' economy is also compounding hardships of the common people.
Unemployment rate is also highest in 40 years and the government has failed to address these key issues, she said while urging the public to support the general strike.
