Balloon dilatation of blocked pulmonary valve successfully performed at Sky Hospital

Balloon Dilatation of blocked (stenosed) pulmonary valve was successfully performed on a nine month infant at the Sky Hospital and Research Centre Pvt Ltd on March 12 .
As per a press release by the Public Relations Officer of the Sky Hospital, the infant, son of H Bijoy of Nongpok Kakching, Imphal East district born with a rare heart defect called Severe Pulmonary Valvular Stenosis (blocked pulmonary valve) was taken up for Balloon Dilatation under general anaesthesia on March 12 at the hospital using Canadian made Tyshak balloon.
The defect was causing damage to the right side of the heart and the whole body circulation owing to which the child was suffering from breathlessness, palpitation, dizzy spells and the blocked heart valve was to be opened either with open heart surgery or without surgery by balloon dilatation.
Two successive inflations of the balloon successfully opened up the blocked pulmonary valve without causing any damage to it and one week after the procedure, the child's symptoms disappeared and he became very active.
Dr L Shyamkishore, Chief Cardiologist of Sky Hospital expressed joy on the successful dilatation of the pulmonary valvular stenosis without surgery and appealed to the masses to be aware of such congenital (birth) heart diseases and informed that Balloon treatment facility are available at Sky Hospital for such diseases, added the release.
