Imphal, March 26 2022:
Meetei Erol Eyek Loinasillol Apunba Lup (MEELAL) has expressed strong condemnation over the exclusion of Manipuri language as a medium for appearing in the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) to be conducted by UGC.
Addressing a press meet at its office premises here on Saturday, MEELAL general secretary Huirem Loikhomba said that the notification for the common entrance test was issued on March 21 informing that the entrance test will be conducted in 13 languages namely English, Hindi, Urdu, Marathi, Bengali, Gujarati, Tamil, Telugu, Kanada, Malayalam, Assamese, Punjabi and Oriya.
It is rather surprising for UGC to exclude Manipuri language, which is listed in the 8th Schedule of the Constitution of India.
Shockingly, the vice-chancellor and registrar of Manipur University are remaining silent over the insult on Manipuri language by UGC.
It shows their outlook towards their own mother language, he said.
He then said that MEELAL will boycott the CUET in the state unless the UGC amends its notification and includes Manipuri as a medium for the entrance test.
He also demanded the university to continue the admission process in the old system until the issue is resolved.
