Public rally in Thoubal on August 31 to raise issues including NRC

Thoubal, August 26 2026:
A public rally supported by civil bodies representing different indigenous communities will be organised on August 31 in Thoubal district demanding the Government to update the National Register of Citizens, restore peace and allow IDPs to return to their homes, said TAKDAL in a statement.
The Thoubal Amasung Kakching District Apunba Lup (TAKDAL) said the decision to carry out the public was taken during a meeting at the office of the EEO Lamding, Wangjing on August 25.The meeting was attended by members of TAKDAL, United Zaliangrongpui, Coordinating Committee (UZCC), Naga Peoples' Union Imphal Women's Wing, Koubru Range Liangmai Women's Union (KRLWU), Chandel Naga Peoples Organisation (CNPO), North Indigenous Women's Organisation, Manipur, All Manipur Ulama Council (AMUC), and the United Manipur Muslim Women's Development Organisation (UMMWDO) .
The public rally on August 31 will kick off from Kodompokpi Sports Complex, Wangjing at 1 pm and conclude at the Khongjom War Memorial Complex with a public meeting, TAKDAL said.
The organisation said the rally will raise several issues, and take resolutions on the issues later in the public meeting, it said.
The rally will demand the Government to conduct NRC prior to Census, save Manipur and its indigenous peoples, end Central Government's "proxy-war", and deliver justice for innocent members of Meitei and Naga communities killed in the ongoing conflict.
It will urge the Government to restore peace and allow internally displaced persons to return to their original villages and homes.
The public rally will also call on the indigenous communities to unite as one force and face all threats facing them, the Thoubal Amasung Kakching District Apunba Lup (TAKDAL) said.
