KSO strike impedes Sadar Hills

, DEC 7 (HNS): The 48 hr general strike imposed by KSO GHQ from Sunday midnight in all hill districts of the State in protest against the alleged "inhumane conduct" by Assam Rifles's Major Manish Sharma and personnel of 24 AR posted at Khudengthabi has affected normal life in Sadar Hills on Monday.
Early in the morning some vehicular movements were seen plying along the highway and business establishments were opened at Kangpokpi town.
However, bandh volunteers started burning tyres in the middle of the road and blocked the highway with stones and broken glasses near Brig Thomas Ground in Kangpokpi and let all shopkeepers down their shutter immediately.

Even educational institutions, who were on the middle of the final examination was closed due to the protest of the students' body while minimal turn out has been recorded in all Government establishments in the town.
KSO volunteers have been witnessed restricting vehicles to pass the highway except those exempted from the purview of the strike by the students' body.
It may be mentioned that the Kuki Students' Organization (KSO) demanded the erring Major and his jawans to be booked at the earliest and face legal action over the alleged inhumane behavior towards the KSO Chandel President and two village chiefs on December 5 evening at Khudengthabi AR Check post.
Doumang Haokip, President, KSO Chandel District and two village chiefs namely Koparsing Lamkang, Chief of Kotal Khunthak and Letkhosei Haokip, Chief of S Lamphei village were reportedly assaulted by personnel of 24 Assam Rifles led by Major Manish Sharma, one JCO and his jawans posted at Khudengthabi AR check post.
Various civil society organizations including KSO Sadar Hills endorsed KSO GHQ protest and enforced the strike in Sadar Hills which will be culminated on Tuesday midnight.
The students' body also warned to impose indefinite general strike if their demands are not met during the 48 hr stir.
Till filing of this report, no untoward incident has been witnessed and reported in the town as well as along the highway within Sadar Hills.
