Imphal, December 07 2015:
All Tribal Students' Union, Manipur (ATSUM) vehemently condemn the brutal killing of promising youth (L) L Poumai and urged the State Government to extend physical and moral support to the decease family members to retrieving his body which remains at the Capital Hospital Bhubaneswar, Odisha.
In a statement, Co-ordinating Committee ATSUM Convenor Maun Tombing alleged that L Poumou was thrown out from a speeding train by five thugs while he was travelling in Dibrugarh-Bangalore Express No 15902 enroute to Bangalore city.
He lamented that the deceased made a distress call to his family members on complaining that around five unidentified persons were threatening him and his mobile phone disconnected since then.
The train reached Bangalore on November 30 but he was found missing.
Maun said on the three days later his death body was found at Capital Hospital Bhubaneswar, Odisha on December 1, 2015.The Union is dismayed over the continuous racial attacks against the North East peoples by the people from the mainland India, while expressing condolence to the bereaved family.
Meanwhile, ATSUM also condemned brutal assaulted of KSO Chandel President Doumang Haokip and his colleagues by the personals of 24 Assam Rifles at Khudengthabi.
The tribal student urged the responsible authorities to immediately book and punished the culprits at the earliest.
The organisation also endorsed the 48-hour strike called by the KSO Chandel related to this barbaric act of the Assam Riffles Personals.
On the other hand, ATSUM as a watchdog of the tribal populace is perturbed against the amalgamation of the three tribal villages of Chandel district into the SDC Circle namely Toupokpi, Tonsen and Mahou Tera into Sugnu SDC Circle under Waikhong Sub-Division in Thoubal district.
Instead of fulfilling the long charter of demands including transfer of land records of the hill districts from the valley and re-organisation of police boundary, the cabinet approval for creation of Sugnu SDC circle by amalgamation tribal villages without the consent and approval of the Hill Area Committee (HAC) is a breach of constitutional provision.
The union will never remain a silent spectator if the cabinet approval is withdrawn or revoked, he said.
