Good governance needed to strengthen ties between communities: Radhabinod

Former Chief Minister Radhabinod Koijam on Monday stated that mere claiming or calling for cementing ties between various communities in Manipur will not be able to safeguard the interests of Manipur.
He said along with strengthening the ties, there is the need to adopt good governance by the State Government.
Radhabinod Koijam was speaking at the opening ceremony of a two-day discussion programme on "Present Political Scenario in Manipur" organised by National Research Centre (NRC) .
Attending the function held at Kuki Inn Imphal, Radhabinod also stressed on the need to understand "our language, cultural heritages and the State's history" .
Dwelling on the current state of affairs in Manipur, the former chief minister said that people should leave behind the narrow concepts based on family, neighborhood or village.
Pointing out that communities in the State are making their won community specific demands, Radhabinod said this phenomenon has led possible disintegration of the State.
Former professor of Manipur University Y Mohendro, who attended the function as Chief Guest, said that Manipur Government had a big role to play to in correcting the history of Manipur.
NRC President Haobam Sanajaoba attended the function as President while retired Principal Professor L Sadananda being the Guest of Honour.
Various leaders of hill tribes, advocates and scholars also spoke on the day.
