Imphal, December 07 2015:
Notwithstanding the office memorandum of the Board of Secondary Education, Manipur dated December 4, 2015, which informed that option of Additional English has been extended up to the academic session 2016-17 to students whose mother tongues are not in the list of MIL in the Board's curriculum, the All Naga Students' Association, Manipur (ANSAM) has reiterated its stand to launch democratic forms of protest if the State Government/BSEM adamantly denies the right to exercise option of Additional English on a permanent basis.
ANSAM had on Dec 5 announced its decision to launch democratic forms of protest in the event of the State Government's failure to revoke, on or before December 10, its order dated March 2013 which removed Additional English from the scheme of study in Classes IX and X under State Board .
"The issue is not about extending the option of Additional English to students whose mother tongues are not in the list of MIL curriculum for one or two academic sessions.
Our demand is for the right to permanently exercise the option of Additional English by all students whether their mother tongues are in the list of the Board's MIL curriculum," a statement issued by assistant secretary of ANSAM James Inka said.
