COPMeV welcomes move to resume Imphal-Guwahati passenger service

The Committee on Protection of Meitei Victims, Moreh (COPMeV) has welcomed the Government's move to resume passenger service between Imphal and Guwahati, which had remained disrupted for about three and a half years following the outbreak of ethnic violence in the State on May 3, 2023.In a release, COPMeV expressed hope that the initiative of the Chief Minister would help ease the hardships faced by the people and contribute towards restoring peace, love and harmony among communities.
The committee said the resumption of passenger service would help reconnect people from the valley and hill areas who had remained inaccessible to one another for a prolonged period due to the violence.
It expressed hope that the move would serve as an important step towards rebuilding trust, restoring normalcy and facilitating the eventual resettlement of displaced people in their original homes.
Referring to the Chief Minister's efforts to bring an end to the violence through his visit to Jiribam and meetings with different communities, COPMeV said it was hopefill that similar efforts would soon be extended to the border town of Moreh.
The committee expressed hope that the Chief Minister would visit Moreh at the earliest, take steps to restore peace and initiate necessary measures to facilitate the resettlement process of those displaced from the town.
COPMeV further appealed to the Chief Minister to ensure that all peace initiatives undertaken by the Government are carried forward effectively and developed into a lasting policy for enduring peace in Manipur.
