Imphal, December 07 2015:
Raising the murder issue of L Poumai during zero hour in the Lok Sabha today, MP Dr Thokchom Meinya underscored the growing need for enactment of a stringent anti-racial law.
.LPoumai of Purul, Manipur was found dead at Capital Hospital, Bhubaneswar, Odisha on December 1 .
L Poumai was travelling to Bangalore by train from Dimapur on November 29.On the same day, he called up one of his family members at around 4.55 pm and complained of being threatened by around five persons.
Then the call reportedly got disconnected.
L Poumai was nowhere to be seen though the train he was travelling in reached Bangalore on November 30.L Poumai was suspectedly thrown out of a moving train by the attackers, said the MP from Manipur.
A police FIR No 0249/ 2015 was reportedly lodged on December 1 .
"I urge this august house to condemn the sad brutal incident.
Criminals are criminals.
They should be immediately booked, arrested and severe stringent punishment should be given to them.
Such incidents should not be allowed to recur", he asserted.
However this case appears to be a clear case of racial discrimination.
Attacks on the Northeasterners in the mainland are very frequent.
Even the capital Delhi is not an exception.
He further reminded about the mass exodus of NE people from cities like Bangaluru because of such unwarranted racial attacks.
People from the NE region look different.
"We have different culture and traditions and our foods are differently delicious.
Most importantly, the history of this region is not at all known to the rest of the country and not fully understood.
Is it not something really serious?", he questioned.
Following these racial attacks in the mainland more particularly in the metros, the Government of India constituted MP Bezbaruah Committee and its recommendations are already with the Government.
Dr Meinya then urged the Union Government to fully implement MP Bezbaruah Committee recommendations and thereby enact a strong stringent anti-racial law immediately to avoid such incidents in future.
