Preparations on to observe Akaba's death anniv

Meetei Erol Eyek Loinasilon Apunba Lup (MEELAL) and Meetei National Front (MNF) will jointly organise the 9th death anniversary of Chingsubam Akaba at Rupamahal Theatre on January 22 next year.
This was announced by Moirangthem Naokhomba Meetei, president MEELAL during a media interaction at its office today afternoon.
Naokhomba said that the death anniversary observance function will begin by offering floral tributes to the photograph of Chingsubam Akaba at Wakha Leima Chinga where his body was laid to rest.
It will be followed by a main function at Rupmahal Theatre.
He also said that under the leadership and guidance of its founder Chingsubam Akaba, MEELAL was formed in 2003.The Lup spearheaded a movement for the revival of Meetei Mayek in the State.
Following strong protests launched by the Lup, Meetei Mayek was introduced in school syllabus in 2006 .
Naokhomba also said that Zibita Okram of Little Flower School who secured the highest marks in Meetei Mayek in HSLC examination 2015 will be honoured by MEELAL and MNF by handing a certificate and a cash award of Rs 20,000.The cash amount is being donated by MLA of Heingang AC, N Biren.
He further said that the highest mark scorer in Meetei Mayek from tribal students and Meetei Muslim will also be honoured on the day.
He further said that like the previous years, Chingsubam Akaba memorial award 2016 will be handed over to former president of MEELAL Ngasekpam Yumjao and village chief of Ichum Kom Keirap, Tomithang Kom (Thoiba) with a cash award of Rs 10 thousand each and a certificate.
As a part of the death anniversary function patriotic poem recitation competition will be held.
The competition will be held in three categories �from Class III to Class VI, from Class VII to Class X and from Class XI and above.
An award will be handed over to the top three winners in each category, he said.
Interested students may collect details from the office of MEELAL, MNF and Pandam evening paper before Dec 20.The last date of submission of application form is Jan 15, 2016 .
He also appealed to all sections of people not to impose any kind of bandh or protest on the day.
