FOCS convention calls for peace, unity, integrity

A people's convention orga-nised by the Federation of Civil Society Organisations (FOCS), Manipur, has appealed to all sections of society to uphold peace, integrity and unity with sincerity and work collectively towards building a secure, inclusive, prosperous and harmonious Manipur.
Held under the theme "Reshaping the Political Upheaval in Manipur : Issues and Challenges" at the auditorium of Manipur University, the convention also adopted a resolution to undertake and support initiatives aimed at strengthening inclusive dialogue, reconciliation, social inclusion and democratic participation among all communities to restore mutual understanding and peaceful coexistence.

The meeting presided by FOCS acting president BM Yaima Shah, was graced by retired Professor W Nabakumar (Manipur University), retired Sessions Judge A Noutuneshwari, Assistant Professor Dr Sahid Ahmed (DM College of Arts), Thadou Inpi Manipur general secretary Michael Lamajathang Haokip, Inpui Naga Union president Merajao Inka, Foothills Naga Coordination Committee (FNCC) convenor Akhiu Ngaomei, Chandel Naga People's Organisation working committee chairman Saka Trimson, Aimol Literature Society chairman Akhup Aimol, Kom Union Manipur advisor AK Kom and Mapao Thangal chief Khalako Kadei Keimi as presidium members.
Addressing the function, Kh Chandramani, convenor of the organising committee of the convention, said the people's convention was held pursuant to the resolutions adopted during a one-day academic discourse held at Manipur University on July 28 .
He alleged that external forces had been driving a wedge among the different communities of Manipur.
He also said frequent blockades of the highways had been causing serious hardships to the people.
Stating that the people of Manipur should no longer remain silent, Chandramani called for collective efforts to confront the political, economic and other challenges facing the State.
