KPA condemns attacks on farmers, chief agent

Imphal, March 08 2022: While condemning the attacks on five farmers and KPA candidate's chief agent, Kuki People's Alliance (KPA), Singngat Bureau has appealed to all concerned to shun post-poll threats and violence.

In a press release issued Tuesday, KPA Singngat Bureau said it was "compelled to take an exception to certain acts of misdemeanour and indignity meted out to us and to our democratic manoeuvres, by certain underground (SoO) groups that are inimical to peaceful co-existence and healthy competition of multi- parties in this electoral fray" .

"We unequivocally condemn the said underground group and volunteers of the BJP-Singhat AC in attempt ing to ban the existence of and poll operation by KPA party in Singhat and Suang doh areas of 60-Singhat (ST) AC.

Such elements open -ly involved in threatening our party workers at gun point, attempted to disrupt our public campaign rally, fired shots, smashed EVM, abducted voters, and selectively tortured our supporters/workers and so on.

This is an outright violation of Part-IV-A of the Representation of the People Act, 1951 under the Constitution of India," it said.

KPA also condemned the inhumane torturing of five farmers from Suangphu village merely for casting their votes in favour of the KPA candidate (Singhat AC), and then the brutal attack on Thangbem Haokip, the chief agent of KPA Candidate Chinlunthang, by the said underground organisation operating at Singhat area on March 2 and 3 respectively.

"However, inspite of wanton obstruction and intimidation faced by the KPA, thanks to the intervention of the security forces, that the processes of re-polling at two polling stations - Teikot & Maokot were successfully conducted," the party added.

It continued, "Furthermore, it is unfortunate that the said UG group continued to threaten and even served summon notices to our party supporters and co-workers.

We reiterate that any individual who supported or worked for the KPA during the course of election only followed his or her democratically assigned duties as party workers/supporters, in the same way any Other parties function.

Any duty or work carried out in his/her capacity to garner votes or support is nothing but a part and parcel of the collective endeavour taken up by the party; thus cannot be construed as personal matter.

Any issue(s) related to the said process ought to be sorted out amicably by both political parties concerned." KPA Singngat Bureau then earnestly appealed to all concerned (political parties, UGs, CSOs, etc.) to completely shun any form of post-poll threats, intimidation, mental harassment and violence, while urging "everybody to forgive and forget, for the sake of love, brotherhood and peaceful co-existence in our land" .
