L Kishan Singha spun web around Meghalaya batters to finish with a record 6 wicket haul and cut short their innings at 157 in 53.1 overs on day 1 of game 5 of Ranji Trophy 2022-23.Manipur who won the toss and chose to field first at MCA Cricket Ground, Polo Ground in Shillong, were trailing by 76 runs at Stumps after registering 81 runs for 4 in 25 overs.
Manipur bowlers who have been in red-hot form this season managed to pile pressure on Meghalaya who have been unbeaten so far in the tournament this season, from the beginning before bowling allrounder Kishan Singha ripped apart their line up with his slow left arm orthodox bowling.
Young gun Jotin Pheiroijam found the breakthrough by trapping Bamanbha Shangpliang lbw for 4 runs in the 10th over before Bishworjit bowled out Kishan Lyngdoh for 33 runs in the 15th over to make it 49 for 2.The 36-run third wicket partnership between Swarajeet Das (24) and Punit Bisht (14) turned out to be the most significant partnership before Swarajeet Das was caught out by Jotin Pheiroijam off Bikash Singh's 1 st delivery in the 29th over.
Kishan Singha then took charge of the bowling attack and claimed his first in the form of skipper Punit Bisht (24) who was caught behind by wicketkeeper Prafullomani to reduce Meghalaya to 104 for 4 in 31.1 overs.
Kishan Singha then trapped Sanvert lbw for 16 runs for the fifth wicket before removing Lerry for 5-ball duck to make it 117 for 6 in 41.3 overs.
Meghalaya slumped continued with Tarique Siddique getting run out for the 7 wicket before Kishan Singha swept three more wickets in the following ten overs to set up Meghalaya's first innings collapse at 157 runs with a run rate of 2.95 per over.
Carrying on the day, Manipur got off to a dismal start losing three batters including both the openers on duck before Langlonyamba M and Ronald M forged a 56 run partnership for the third wicket and resurrected the innings.
Kamajit Y fell to Abhishek for the first wicket for a 3-ball duck while Bishnoi Jr dismissed B Rahman for 19-ball duck and Priyojit K for 4-ball duck to reduce Manipur to 13 for 3 in 7.5 overs.
Bishnoi Jr then broke Manipur's crucial third wicket partnership by remov-ing Manipur skipper Langlonyamba who was just two runs away from making his half century.
Ronald M (17 off 52 balls) and Jotin Pheiroijam (9 off 11 balls) were unbeaten on the crease as Manipur rack up 81 runs for 4 in 25 overs to trail be- : hind Meghalaya by 76 runs.
