Imphal, January 10 2023:
The Kangla Nongpok Thong which was already inaugurated on January 6 by Union Home Minister Amit Shah was dedicated to the public by Chief Minister N Biren Singh today.
Speaking at the inaugural function which was organised by the State Archeology Department, the Chief Minister stated that the back door or western door is generally associated with death and misery as per Meitei worldview and beliefs.
As such, many senior citizens and experts are of the opinion that it would not bode well for the public if the western gate of Kangla is used as the entrance and exit gate.
That is why, the Kangla Nongpok Thong (eastern gate of Kangla) has been opened, Biren.
As there were different feedbacks to the Government's initiative of removing the wedge put inside the mouth of the Kanglasha installed inside the Kangla and opening of the eastern gate, the same work took around three years, he said.
Announcing that the western gate of Kangla would be closed and in its place, the eastern gate would be opened to the public, the Chief Minister said that IRB personnel clad in special uniform would man the eastern gate.
Saying that some structures which were built along the road leading from New Checkon to the Kangla eastern gate after encroaching into Government land were evicted in the course of expanding the road, Biren said that the Government has been working to expand the road leading from Kangla eastern gate to Porompat.
Manipur which was ruled by successive kings from 33 AD has a written history spanning over 2000 years.
However, some individuals guided by vested interests have been trying to manipulate the history of Manipur, he remarked.
Saying that the State Government respects all religions and ethnic groups settled in the State, Biren claimed that peace and prosperity of Manipur is the common desire of all the MLAs and Ministers of his Government.
The Kangla Nongpok Thong was constructed with Imphal Smart City Limited as funding agency and Manipur Police Housing Corporation Limited as work agency.
Rajya Sabha Member Leishemba Sanajaoba, Agriculture Minister Thongam Biswajit, Commerce and Industry Minister Nemcha Kipgen, PWD Minister Govindas Konthoujam, Health Minister Dr Sapam Ranjan and MLA Nishikant Singh Sapam were also present at the function.
