Imphal, January 10 2023:
Nungthel Leima Nupi Lup, Top Siphai Makha Leikai donated blankets and edible items to Langol Old Age Home located at Langol Ningthou Leikai today.
Nungthel Leima Nupi Lup extended the aid to the elderly inmates of the Home as a part of their annual activity of presenting winter gifts to elderly persons under the aegis of All Manipur United Clubs Organisation (AMUCO).
AMUCO president Pheiroijam Nando Luwang; vice-president MM Thambou; Nungthel Leima Nupi Lup president Longjam Khomdonbi and secretary Thingujam Kamala Devi were present at the occasion.
Speaking at the occasion, Nando Luwang expressed concern over the rising cases of elderly persons being kept at old age homes owing to lack of concern and care by their families and relatives which is really unfortunate.
He maintained that it is depressing that elderly persons are being subjected to ill-treatments by their own children and are left homeless thereby compelling them to take refuge in shelter homes.
Such acts will lead to degradation of the indigenous culture and traditions and should be denounced by all, he added.
Stating that old age homes or shelter homes should be only for those who do not have family nor relatives, he called for collective efforts to stand against any form of atrocities towards the elderly persons and take up stringent actions against the persons involved in such acts.
Longjam Khomdonbi stressed on the need of taking care of one's own elderly parents who have dedicated most of their lives for the betterment of their children.
Young parents should shower the same love towards their elderly parents as they do upon their young children, she added.
