Kom Union restricts participation in cultural events

Kom Union Manipur (KUM) has restricted any individual or groups of Kom community from presenting or performing cultural programmes of the community in any event without the prior approval of the union.
Addressing a press meet in this regard at Manipur Press Club, here, on Tuesday, KUM president Serto Hao Kom said that it is the apex body of all Kom organisations in the state and the union is the forerunner in preserving and protecting the culture and traditions of Kom, which is one of the indigenous communities of the state.
In its long history, the community had never been involved in any communal clash with any community.
It has been striving for a united and strong Manipur, and committed to protect the integrity of the state, he said.
The decision to restrict performance of Kom cultural programmes in other events outside the community without its approval was taken up to check unauthorised and misrepresentation of Kom culture, he said and urged all individuals or groups to take prior approval from the union if they want to participate in any events requiring showcasing of Kom cultural programmes.
