Late night blast rocks Nagamapal

Imphal, January 10 2023:
A powerful IED went off last night at around 11.55 at Nagamapal Kangjabi Leirak Laikangbam Leikai, Imphal West under Imphal Police Station.
According to the police the incident took place in front of the residential gate of Laikangbam Dorendro s/o (L) Nabakumar of Nagamapal Kangjabi Leirak Laikangbam Leikai who is the Assistant Registrar of NIT Langol.
The blast damaged some portions of the gate and window panes of the nearby houses but no one was injured.
Soon after the incident, a team of Imphal West commando and senior officers of Imphal West district police rushed to the site and carried out an inspection.
On checking the CCTV camera installed at the residence of L Dorendro, it was found that two unknown masked persons who came on a two-wheeler placed the IED wrapped in black polythene and left the place hurriedly.
The bomb went off after a gap of around 10 minutes.
A team of Forensic Science and bomb experts also came and inspected the blast site.
Imphal Police have registered a suo moto case for further investigation of the case, said sources.
Meanwhile local people of Nagamapal Kangjabi Leirak have condemned the act of triggering bomb blast at the congested residential area.
They further asked who would take responsibility if there were casualties.
On the other hand, teaching and non-teaching staff of NIT Langol staged a sit-inprotest today against the bomb blast.
NIT Supervisor Sagolsem Surjit who took part in the protest demonstration staged inside the NIT campus said that planting explosives at civilian areas is highly condemnable.
He also asked who would take responsibility had the blast resulted in human casualties.
Saying that NTT had not encountered any incident like that of yesterday since its establishment 12 years back, he appealed to all concerned to clarify who carried out the attack and why.
