Minister reminds students on importance of discipline

The Board of Secondary Education Manipur (BSEM) celebrated its golden jubilee on Tuesday at the auditorium of Manipur State Films Development Society, Palace Compound and presented prizes and awards to students who secured positions and topped in different subjects in the HSLC examination-2022 conducted by the board.
Education minister Th Basanta Kumar, who attended the event as chief guest, said that though bringing positive change will take time it is of utmost importance for the betterment of the society.
He said that discipline is very much essential in students' life as it is with strict adherence to standard norms that they would become scientist, doctor or engineer.
Students who passed class X are now required to understand changes being brought with the introduction of National Education Policy.
Students have no problem in giving time for other activities apart from education but they must have discipline to become successful in life, he reiterated.
According to minister Basanta, BSEM was established in 1972 coinciding with the year Manipur was accorded statehood status and accordingly people need to understand the historical relevance.
He said that all the officers in education department work for the welfare of students as they are pillars of the future.
Population of students may be around 25 percent of the state's total but they constitute 100 percent in terms of future generation, he said, adding that felicitation of toppers in BSEM exam is being conducted to encourage them for striving for further successes in their future academic careers.
At the event, students who secured top 10 positions and topped in different subjects were honoured with presentation of awards.
The event was also attended by former chairmen, secretaries, controller of examinations and retired employees of BSEM.
