Remand for rape accused

Imphal, January 10 2023:
A 43-year old man has been remanded to judicial custody for allegedly raping a married woman at different places during the past few months.
The accused Takhellambam Omoijit (43) s/o (L) Apabi of Iroisemba Mamang Leikai was produced before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal West today by a team of Lamphel Police Station after completion of police custody period along with a prayer for judicial custody remand.
Through an APP, the IO of the case submitted that the victim lodged a complaint on December 31 saying she was raped by the accused inside a car along the Shija Hospital road.
The victim further disclosed that on another day, the accused tried to enter her house but she turned him away.
However, the accused threatened her saying that he would disclose their sexual relationship to everyone if she fails to come whenever he calls her out.
Left with no other option, the victim went with the accused to the house of one of his friends at Tera Sapam Leirak.
There she was served juice by the accused and a woman.
Soon after drinking the juice, she became unconscious and taking advantage of her unconsciousness, the accused took her to Sekmai and sexually abused her inside an unknown room.
The accused later dropped her at a rented house located at Salam threatening her of dire consequences if she disclosed their sexual relationship to anyone, the IO submitted before the Court.
The accused was arrested in connection with the case on January 3 and he admitted the charges levelled against him.
Takhellambam Omorjit said that he and the victim had a love affair from the past four months and they used to roam at Sekmai and used to drink alcohol together and also admitted that they had sexual relationship at different places and time.
The IO said that attempts have been made to arrest the woman from Tera Sapam Leirak who is presently evading arrest and prayed for remanding the accused to judicial custody.
The Court, on perusal of the case record and after hearing the submission of the IO, remanded the accused in judicial custody till January 24 .
