Migratory birds trade: Two traders, one buyer apprehended

A joint team of Unique Wildlife Protection Committee Manipur, Kakching Range Forest staff and Wildlife Crime Control Bureau Eastern Region have apprehended two individuals involved in trading of migratory birds and another for buying the same from Mayang Imphal Bazar area today during a drive.
As per a statement from Unique Wildlife Protection Committee Manipur, the two persons in question have been identified as Akham Tomba Singh (52) s/o Akham Modhu Singh and Ningthoujam Ibochaoba (54) s/o Ningthoujam Thoiba Singh from Mayang Imphal Heigum Yangbi.
The combined team also recovered a dead male Nganu Mitngoubi (Ferrigunous Pocchard) and a female Nganu Thoidingnum (Gadwall) from the duo.
It may be noted that the joint team conducted a drive at Mayang Imphal Bazar area today after receiving information about the selling of migratory birds in the area.
The duo were apprehended during the drive around 10:30 am and later on another person who allegedly bought migratory birds from the two was also detained.
The three have reportedly been handed over to Central Forest Division to be doled out appropriate action under Wildlife Protection Act 1972.The statement also alleged that the duo were frequently involved in trapping birds in the eastern part of Loktak and supplying them to alcohol vendors and meat shops.
Further, the statement from Unique Wildlife Protection Committee Manipur also appealed against the hunting/trapping/poaching of wildlife.
