Imphal, April 30 2024:
RPI-A secretary Maheshwar Thounaojam has slammed both the ruling BJP and the opposition Congress for focusing on election and allowing the crisis in the state to continue.
Addressing a press conference at Dispur Press Club, Assam on Monday, Maheshwar said that Manipur had a semblance of peace before the election but the situation turned worst after the polls conducted in the state.
In one of the deadliest post-election attacks, two CRPF personnel were killed and two others injured thereby hinting as strong possibility that the conflict in the state is being remote controlled by those helming the affairs and parties unconcerned with suffering of the masses, he maintained.
Maheshwar opined that a sincere effort from the government as well as pressure from the opposition could have ended the crisis within a couple of months but the crisis is completing a year in a couple of days.
The longer the crisis lingers more people will suffer, he cautioned.
He also expressed strong resentment over the misattribution of Manipur's traditional game Mukna-Kangjei to Mizoram in a book published by SCERT, New Delhi.
RPI-A northeast observer Vinod Nikalje, who also attended the press conference said that India despite boasting of being the largest democracy in the world, there is no semblance of democracy in Manipur today as could be comprehended from the people deprived of their voting rights recently in the Lok Sabha election.
At the same time, people of Manipur are suffering from the year-long crisis, which had claimed hundreds of lives including state and central security forces.
The image of the country would be tarnished before the global community if the government allows the crisis to continue, he said while drawing attention of the BJP led government in both Centre and state to chalk out an amicable solution to the crisis.
