Imphal, April 30 2024:
Pointing out that Village Defence Force (VDF) personnel are yet to receive their wages as the home department has not yet issued their bifurcation order, All Manipur VDF Employees' Welfare Association (AMVDFEWA) urged authorities concerned to complete the process to ensure that the personnel enjoy their entitlements.
In a release, AMVDFEWA publicity secretary Y Iboyaima Singh recalled that Manipur police department sent proposal to home department twice to allow fund allocation of bifurcated districts including Kakching, Tengnoupal, Kamjong, Jiribam, Kangpokpi, Pherzawl and Noney to the SPs concerned.
As the home department did not provide bifurcation order for the VDF personnel, who were already approved by the cabinet on October 13, 2022, release of their wages remain pending.
Stating that VDF personnel deployed to maintain law and order and also in election, are under duress, he urged chief minister to instruct authorities concerned to complete the process.
DP and finance department failed to complete the file process for more than a year, he contended, while asserting that failure to provide meagre wages of VDF personnel despite having funds is an invite for intense protest.
Regarding the death of VDF personnel L Prem, attached to Imphal East commando, while trying to save his family and locality in an armed attack on April 27, Iboyaima demanded the government to provide ex-gratia to the family and government job to the immediate kin.
