Veteran scribe no more

Veteran journalist Potshangbam Radheshyam Singh popularly known as PR Shyam of Uripok Takhellambam Leikai passed away after a prolonged illness at RIMS, yesterday.
He was 79 and is survived by his wife, two sons and two daughters.
PR Shyam was the first general secretary (1974-75) of the All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) .
He played a major role in the establishment of the Union (AMWJU) .
He started his career as a reporter of Khollao, a daily based in Imphal and worked for many years at Simanta Patrika.
Extending their condolences, members of AMWJU and Editors Guild Manipur (EGM) convened a meeting at Manipur Press Club today with AMWJU president Wangkhemcha Shamjai in the chair and observed silence for two minutes in memory of the veteran journalist.
A press release issued by AMWJU, on the other hand, said that their members went to the residence of PR Shyam and shared the grief of the bereaved family.
AMWJU said that the late journalist played a major role in the establishment of the Union.
His demise has left behind an irreparable void to the media fraternity, it added.
