The Directorate of Transport has informed that a good number of commercial goods vehicles and other class of small goods vehicles for loading/unloading of goods items along the National Highways, State Highways and other parts of the State are operating in violation of the permit condition i.e., nature of goods to be carried as specified in the permit issued by the competent authority which is in violation of the provisions of the Motor Vehicle Act/Rules.
In view of the above matter, Director of Transport, Dr Nivedita Lairenlakpam has directed the Enforcement authority/team to regularly check the goods vehicles and if any vehicles are found carrying the types of goods in contravention to that specified in the permits, necessary action as deem fit shall be initiated against the default vehicles as per the provisions of Motor Vehicle Act/Rules.
Further, for effective compliance and checking of the good vehicles by the Enforcement authorities, the goods items to be carried by the Goods Vehicles should be clearly indicated while issuing the goods permits by the issuing authorities of the Transport Department, informed the Director.
