Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai visited the field formations and forward company operating bases of Assam Rifles along Indo-Myanmar Border at Moreh and Permanent Vehicle Check Post at Khudengthabi, Tengnoupal district in Manipur on January 9 and 10 .
A press release issued by the PRO of Inspector General of Assam Rifles said that the Union MoS was briefed about the prevailing security situation and operational preparedness along the border areas during the visit.
Saying that Nityanand Rai also reviewed the construction of fences along the Indo-Myanmar border, the PRO said that the Union MoS was satisfied on seeing the security measures and operational preparedness of the Assam Rifles.
As per the statement, the Union MoS acknowledged the contribution of Assam Rifles in maintaining peace and harmony and preventing cross border smuggling and drug trafficking in North East India including the insurgency hit areas.
Nityanand Rai also interacted with the Assam Rifles troops deployed along the Indo-Myanmar border areas and noted their services.
The Union MoS also emphasised on the need to ensure the well-being of all ranks of Assam Rifles in recognition, added the statement.
