JAC petitions DC; victim accused of rape bid

Bishnupur/Imphal, January 10 2023:
The JAC constituted in connection with death of Y Priyobra-ta (48), son of Y Kesho of Nachou Awang Leikai Ward No 2, submitted a memorandum containing its charter of demands to Bishnupur deputy commissioner Lourembam Bikram on Tuesday, Earlier, JAC members and large number of Nachou villagers arrived at DC Bishnupur Complex for submitting the memorandum but only three JAC members were allowed to call on the DC Bishnupur.
Speaking to media persons after submission of the memorandum, JAC convener N Jadu stated that the DC assured of forwarding the memorandum to the chief minister as soon as possible.
During the meeting, the JAC also reiterated it demands to the DC for giving death penalties to the alleged killers, James and his wife, etc., while warning that until its demands are met by the government it will not claim the body of Priyobrata.
Moreover, the JAC is ready to launch various forms of protests to get justice, he cautioned.
N Jadu further informed that the DC reassured them of ensuring their demands reach the government and the chief minister, and expressed hope that the government would do all for the security and welfare of the public.
Mention may be made that Priyobrata went missing on December 30, 2022 only for his body to be recovered from near Khuzama in Nagaland on January 7.On the other-hand, one Thoudam Ranjana, who claimed to be an aunt of the prime accused James' wife, contended that Jarhes killed Priyobrata during a fight to protect his wife after Priyobrata attempted to outrage her modesty.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here on Tuesday, Ranjana contended that Priyobrata was a close friend of James and both of them had been doing business in Moreh.
On December 30, Priyobrata along with James, his wife and their baby went together to Dimapur in Priyobrata's Van and on reaching near Mao, Priyobrata and James had liquors after which James slept in the van due to intoxication.
Taking undue advantage of that time, Priyobrata tried to outrage the modesty of James's wife, as such a confrontation occurred.
During the fight, Priyobrata tried to kill James using a knife kept in the van but failed and then he fled from the area towards a gorge.
Subsequently, James ran after him and Priyobrata was killed in the ensuing fight, she claimed, while questioning whether it would be wrong to protect his wife from sexual assault.
