Naga leaders today gathered at Tagaramphung village under Kangpokpi district and participated in the unveiling programme of the 'Naga Solidarity Pillar,' wherein former UNC president G Gaingam stressed on the need for the Meiteis and Nagas to forge a roadmap.
Former and present presidents and executives of UNC, All Naga Students' Association, Manipur (ANSAM), Naga Women Union (NWU), Naga People's Movement for Human Rights (NPMHR), tribe presidents and others participated in the programme.
MLA L Dikho unveiled the monolith.
Talking on the occasion, UNC president S Kho John said that Nagas are "trustworthy, unique and respected people" .
However, there have also been some mistakes committed by "our past leaders", he added.
Kho John further said that such mistakes have made Nagas a "minority in our own land" .
The UNC president added that this monolith which was unveiled today is going to be 'very important' .
Also speaking at the occasion, former UNC president G Gaingam said that Nagas and Meiteis should maintain a cordial relationship.
"This will benefit both the Nagas and the Meiteis," he said and added that it will not serve any good if Meiteis and Nagas hate each other.
Gaingam added that Meiteis and Nagas should work hard to understand each other.
The former UNC president added that Meiteis and Nagas should have a long lasting roadmap.
Gaingam also narrated the genesis of UNC.
L Dikho, while talking on the occasion, said that he considers this event 'historic' .
"We have come here for a purpose," the MLA said and acknowledged the contributions made by the Naga leaders.
He said "unity is our beauty" .
