Sit-ins staged against liquor legalisation

Imphal, September 28 2022:
Condemning the cabinet decision to legalise production and sale of liquor in the state, Moirangkhunou Bazar Apunba Meira Lup and CADA Moirangkhunou Bazar Jointly staged a sit-in protest at Moirangkhunou Bazar in Bishnupur district on Wednesday.
The protestors held placards inscribed with slogans like 'Will the legalised liquor not cause harm to health', 'Restrict sale and production of liquor', 'Withdraw decision to legalise liquor', etc.
Hiyangthang Mamang Leikai Meira Paibi and CADA Hiyangthang Unit also organised sit-in protest at Hiyangthang Keithel decrying legalisation of liquor in the state.
Speaking at the protest site, Hiyangthang Mamang Leikai Meira Paibi president Yumnam Khomdonbi denounced the cabinet decision to legalise liquor and questioned the government whether it wanted to destroy Manipur by drowning the people in liquor.
She said that they are not afraid of losing their lives for ensuring a safe future for the state and reiterated the demand for withdrawal of the cabinet decision.
Similarly, Irilbung Kalika Lairembi Women Welfare Association and CADA Unit staged a sit-in at Irilbung Kalika.
The protestors shouted slogans and held placards denouncing the liquor legalisation and demanding revocation of cabinet decision to legalise liquor.
