Imphal, September 28 2022:
Apunba Manipur Kanba Ima Lup (AMKIL) and National Identity Protection Council (NIPCO) jointly observed the 22nd Manipur Integrity and Solidarity Day at Keishamthong Top Leirak Maning community hall, here, on Wednesday.
The observance was attended by 22nd Manipur Integrity and Solidarity Day Committee chairperson Lourembam Nganbi, vice chairperson Oinam Premjit, Haomi Research Guild chairman Robin Shinglai, GP Women's College retired professor Rose Mangshi Haokip and GP Women's College professor Abdul Hakim Saha as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, Lourembam Nganbi recalled the massive public rally taken out on September 28, 2000 against the alleged plot to disintegrate Manipur by NSCN (IM) and later 18 brave Manipuris sacrificed their lives in the aftermath of the movement against the inclusion of controversial phrase 'Without territorial limit' in the ceasefire agreement signed between NSCN (IM) and Government of India.
She also recalled the protest movement launched by the people against the contentious Citizenship Amendment Bill.
It is unfortunate that the state government remained blind even though they knew the ploy of the central government to pass the bill, she contended, while stressing the need to bring out a white paper on the implementation of ILP in Manipur during such crucial time when the government tried to pass CAB.
Delivering key note address, convenor of the committee NG Pravabati said that historic rally and the movement organised by AMKIL and NIPCO along with 39 indigenous communities of Manipur for an egalitarian society and to bring communal harmony remains only in the mind nowadays.
While wondering about the socio-political situation in the state in last 22 years and the relationship among the indigenous people, she called for serious introspection on how the bond of unity has disintegrated.
Pointing out that living together in harmony is the objective of the committee, she said that they will never remain silent if the territory and integrity of Manipur is threatened or compromised by the government of India in trying to appease anybody or group.
