Imphal, September 28 2022:
Reacting to a statement issued by 'self-styled' Karuangmuan Nungtek Village Authority and published in the media on September 26 regarding change of name of village from Karuangmuan to Karuangmuan-Nungtek village, Karuangmuan village authority ex-officio chairman Gangonglung Khumba clarified that there is no such agreement or resolution ever adopted by the people of Karuangmuan.
In a release, Gangonglung informed that the statement was malicious and desperate attempt made by some elements of Nungtek to confuse the innocent public and disturb peaceful coexistence of the villagers.
While asserting that the name Nungtek is a misnomer and a bygone thing, he maintained that the villagers had unanimously adopted the village's name as Karuangmuan from Nungtek in the year 2003.Moreover, Karuangmuan village has been recognised by the Government of Manipur (Gazette No 79, Notification No.9/2/98 - CHA, dated 22/05/2003 and also Manipur Gazette No 217, Notification No 9/47/93CHA, dated 13/09/2006) with a bonafide ex-officio chairman, Gangonglung said.
Dismissing the claims by disgruntled 'gangs' of Nungtek as unfounded and does not have an iota of truth, Gangonglung said that it was designed by vested interests with the ulterior motive to create law and order issue in the village.
There is no change in the village s name and Karuangmuan village authority is the legitimate and authentic governing body of the village, Gangonglung informed.
