Imphal, September 28 2022:
A seminar cum workshop on 'Medicinal plants and aromatic plants conservation and cultivation' was organised by Manipur Food and Medicinal Plants Processing and Cold Storage Cooperative Society Limited at the conference hall of Institute of Cooperative Management, Lamphelpat, here, on Wednesday.
Cooperative Society Manipur registrar Valentina Arambam, who was chief guest of the seminar, said that different departments including MSME have been extending support to cooperative societies and enterprises but some cooperative societies exist merely for availing loan and this indeed is very unfortunate.
If a cooperative society functions properly, there will be full support from the government and if not, there will not be any support, she said and maintained that Manipur will develop when cooperative societies work sincerely and function properly.
The values of medicinal and aromatic plants are very high nowadays and farmers of the state, who are aware of this are now taking up cultivation of these plants, Valentina Arambam noted and appealed to farmers taking part in the seminar cum workshop to concentrate on cultivation of medicinal and aromatic plants.
Manipur Food and Medicinal Plants Processing and Cold Storage Cooperative Society Limited president DK Sagolsem said that the seminar has been organised with the main objective of harnessing the valuable medicinal and aromatic plants, which are being wasted in Manipur so that these valuable plants could generate income for farmers and ultimately help in improving the state's economy.
As resource persons, DK Sagolsem, director (AYUSH) A Guneshor Sharma, MSME deputy director Dr Yaorentomba and IMC Imphal director Dr K Jaychandra spoke on different topics.
