Health minister lauds anganwadi workers, ASHAs

Health minister Dr Sapam Ranjan Singh joined the observance of Rashtriya Poshan Maah (National Nutrition Month), at Phoijing Awang community hall in Konthoujam assembly constituency on Wednesday.
Speaking at the programme organised by ICDS Project Imphal West-1, Lamsang as chief guest, Dr Ranjan commended the role of anganwadi workers, helpers and ASHAs in the society.
Anganwadi workers and helpers work at the grassroots level and help extend benefit of flagship schemes to the targeted section of the society, he added.
The minister continued that the departments of health, social welfare and education need to work together for a better and prosperous society.
"For bringing a better child and maternal health care system, we need to focus on the primary level health care service.
In this regard, anganwadi helpers and workers are playing a big role," he noted.
Dr Ranjan maintained that the government has launched many health care schemes in the state and at central level.
Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan is one such model example.
The government has set 2025 as target for complete elimination of TB disease from the country which is five years ahead of the WHO's target.
Regarding the legalisation of liquor, he emphasised that the decision has been taken in due consideration of the health benefit of the consumers.
The decision has not been taken hastily.
There will be strict scrutiny on every trade and production of liquor after it has been fully implemented in the state, the minister maintained and appealed to all concerned to work with dedication and sincerity.
Social Welfare Department joint director Bantee Singh Konthoujam, BJP Konthoujam Mandal president H Lalkanhai, Nambol Municipal Council ex-vice chairperson A Bimola Devi, former councillors M Premabati, M Priyokumar Meitei and Yarou Bamdiar Gram Panchayat pradhan L Sorojini Devi were amongst those who shared the dais on the occasion.
Supervisors and staff of Social Welfare Department, anganwadi workers and others also attended the event.
