Loktak Development Authority (LDA) chairman M Asnikumar Singh, who is also BJP Manipur Pradesh spokesman, inaugurated an 'Atal Tinkering Laboratory' at Thanga Island Modern English School (TIMES), Salam Leikai, Thanga on Wednesday.
While speaking at inauguration the programme, Asnikumar noted that Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee's legacy lives on and continues to inspire each and every one of us.
On January 1, 2015, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched Atal Innovative Mission (AIM), with the objective to develop new programmes and policies for fostering innovation in different sectors of the economy, provide platforms and collaboration opportunities for different stakeholders, and create an umbrella structure to oversee the innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem of the country, Asnikumar explained.
Stating that as part of AIM's mission, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched Atal Tinkering Laboratories across the country - 10,000 laboratories in thousands of schools, covering more than 11 lakh students across the country to date, he maintained that the objective is to foster curiosity, creativity and imagination in young minds; and inculcate skills such as design mind-set, computational thinking, adaptive learning, physical computing, etc.
This innovative laboratory will provide the much needed platform to the hundreds of students of Thanga, most of whom belong to the underprivileged fishing community, the LDA chairman continued.
He then appealed to parents of the students not to make any compromise in their children's education, despite their daily hardships, as education is the pillar of a brighter future for the nation.
Asnikumar also called upon students of the school to make full use of the newly established facility Which will impart training in various innovative fields like artificial intelligence, drone technology, remote controlled machinery, etc., and not to hesitate from sharing new ideas that come to mind and in the long run, contribute in the nation building process.
"Under the leadership and vision of the 'People's CM' N Biren Singh and education minister Th Basanta Singh, the educational landscape of Manipur is taking huge leaps.
The focus on providing holistic, comprehensive knowledge to students with focus on real world applications will surely be a success story in the coming years.
Moreover, the establishment of an Atal Tinkering Lab in place like our Thanga which has been plagued by various obstacles is something which we couldn't have imagined.
This is testament to the success of our Prime Minister's vision of all inclusive nationwide development in all parameters", he added.
Asnikumar also appealed to the students of the school to take an active and keen interest in knowing the importance and role of Loktak Lake in the conservation of the environmental and history of Manipur.
