Entrepreneurs' training programme commences

A three-day training programme for entrepreneurs on 'Export documentation, procedures and global supply chain' has commenced from Wednesday at the lecture hall-2 of Manipur Institute of Management Studies (MIMS) , Manipur University.
MU Department of Vocational Studies and Skill Development is organising the programme in coordination with directorate general of foreign trade, Kolkata and Federation of Indian Export Organisation, Guwahati.
MU vice-chancellor professor N Lokendra and Department of Vocational Studies and Skill Development head professor Ch Ibohal attended the opening ceremony as chief guest and president respectively while Directorate General of Foreign Trade, Kolkata joint director Amit Sharma, Federation of Indian Export Organisations, Guwahati NE head Kaushik Dutta, MU MIMS director professor L Prabhakar were the guests of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, professor Ch Ibohal highlighted trade and commerce potentials of Act East Policy and expressed confidence that once the Trans Asian Highway and Trans Asian Railway connect Manipur with South East Asian countries the state will become an important business hub.
As such, youth of the state need to have proper knowledge of export and import documentation in order to take maximum benefits of the opportunities that will arise amid the country's campaign for self-reliance and Make in India as well as the emerging movement of organic value chain and global value chain, he added.
Prof Ibohal also said that the state has plenty of resources, which could be promoted in the international market.
Unfortunately, these resources are still lying unutilised due to the state's inability to connect with international market.
A trend of borderless global trade is emerging today and there are many opportunities in e-commerce and digital marketing.
In this situation, there is a strong need to promote the handloom, handicraft and organic products of the state in the international market.
The training programme has been organised with the objective to provide knowledge on export documentation, procedures, financial documentation, commercial documentation, transport documentation and shipping documentation as well as banking requirement related with export and import businesses to the emerging entrepreneurs of the state, he added.
Altogether 55 trainees including students and faculty members of the university as well as young entrepreneurs of the state are participating in the training.
