NIA takes over case

The Special Court of National Investigation Agency (NIA) Manipur has approved the application filed by the agency to thoroughly investigate the case related to the killing of non locals at Kakching and Huikap allegedly by eight cadres of PLA/RPF including a juvenile.
The Court also directed the officers of Yairipok police station to hand over all the seized materials and documents of the case to the NIA.
The direction was given based on the application filed by the CIO NIA Imphal to transfer all judicial dockets/ case records along with the arrested persons to the NIA Court Manipur.
As per NIA, Thoubal commando and a column of 16 Assam Rifles arrested eight cadres of PLA/ RPF including a minor and seized two 9mm pistols and two hand grenades from their possession on August 13 last.
It further said that NIA, Imphal branch re-registered the case on September 27 as per the direction of the Ministry of Home Affairs under different Sections of IPC, Arms Act and Explosive Substance Act arising out of the FIR registered at Yairipok police station.
The Court after hearing the NIA and on perusal of the application approved the application and directed the Officer in Charge of Yairipok police station to hand over all the documents and seized materials of the case to the CIO of NIA.
The cadres of PLA/RPF who are in judicial custody in connection with the case are Chingkham Basanta (38), s/o Ningthembi of Andro Nungyungbi, Moirangthem Jitesh (22), s/o (L) Sanjit of Kakching Ningthou Leikai, Konjengbam Romeo @ Nongthon (28), s/o Raghu of Moirang Konjengbam, Phanjoubam Rabi @ Nanao (26), s/o Kula of Andro Labaochum Ching Leikai, Salam Mangijao (55), s/o (L) Tombi of Kakching Wairi Salam Leikai, Naorem Manoj (23), s/o Nobin of Luker Mayai Leikai, Samurailatpam Akash @ Muston (19), s/o Rajeswor of Kakching Wairi Saban Bamon Leikai.
The juvenile, on the other hand, is being lodged at an observation home.
