Court convicts two in Lakshya murder case

Imphal, September 28 2022:
Sessions Judge, Bishnupur on Wednesday convicted two men accused in the fatal stabbing of one Wahengbam Lakshya during a Lai Haraoba festival held at Karang Khuman Pokpa Laibung on June 26, 2006.During the hearing of the case on Wednesday, a team of Moirang Police produced accused Ningthoujam Kumar (67) and Ningthoujam Yaima (56), both from Thanga Karang Chingjeng, before the Court.
The prosecution submitted to the court that on June 27, 2006, one Wahengbam Mani of Karang Maning Leikai filed a report at Moirang PS around 6.30 pm stating that the two accused slit his son, Wahengbam Lakshya's throat and killed him, while he (Lakshya) was watching the Lai Haraoba festival.
Based on the report, Moirang PS registered an FIR and conducted investigation.
Both Kumar and Yaima were arrested on July 1 and questioned by the police.
The two accused confessed and admitted to the crime and revealed the whereabouts of the knife used in committing The crime, which was later recovered from near Karang Khuman Pokpa Laibung.
After listening to both sides, the court convicted Ningthoujam Kumar and Ningthoujam Yaima under Section 302 of IPC.
It then ordered SP Bishnupur tQ take custody of the two convicts and transfer them to
Sajiwa Jail.
