Imphal, May 06 2024:
Youth for Peace International (YPI) and Taragi Cheisu launched a 4-day youth leadership development workshop on the theme "Peace building and conflict transformation" at Manipur University today.
Dean of Department of Life Sciences Professor GKN Chhetry, former Chairperson of Manipur Human Rights Commission Khaidem Mani, retired IAS officer Dr RK Nimai and retired SP of Nagaland police Potshangbam Sonamani attended the inauguration of the workshop the MU Open Air Theatre as presidium members.
Dr Deben Bachaspatimayum, secretary of Taragi Cheisu, said the workshop is the first towards developing leadership skills among the youth and for them to lead the State towards peace.
During the workshop, he said, four facilitators from Columbia and New Delhi will provide activity based inputs to youth on resolving crises without violence.
He said the United Nations Security Council in 2016 had taken a resolution to incorporate youth in peace building processes.
The ongoing violent conflict in Manipur has taken the lives of many people and destroyed properties, besides displacing thousands in relief camps.
The conflict needs a solution for peace to return, he said.
Deben added efforts have been taken up for participation of youth of all communities in the workshop.
Their participation will help bring peace, he added.
