Kakching, October 07 2022:
As part of observance of 67th Wildlife Week, which commenced from October 2 under the theme "Future of Wildlife is in Our Hands", Kakching Forest Range under the aegis of Thoubal Forest Division conducted drives against wildlife poaching and hunting around lakes under its jurisdiction, on Friday.
The team led by Kakching Range officer Laishram Dinesh and consisting of Pallel beat officer Md Salauddin, Waikhong beat officer N Brojen Singh, Wangoo BO and staffers carried out the drive at Lousi Pat, Khodum Pat, Pumlen Pat, Buffalo Farm and other adjoining wetlands.
Speaking to the media, Dinesh informed that the drive was conducted with an aim to safeguard the migratory birds as the winter months approach.
He also appealed to the public to help stop poaching activities.
While pointing out that with the existing skeletal staff, the forest department will not be able to protect all the lakes and wetlands in the state, the officer called for public support in protecting the migratory birds from being poached/hunted and to inform the authorities if case of such activities.
