Farmers' training / onion and garlic clove seed distribution programme organised

A farmers' training cum onion and garlic clove seed distribution programme was held at College of Agriculture (COA), Iroisemba today.
The programme was organised by College of Agriculture, Central Agricultural University (COA, CAU), Imphal in association with the College of Horticulture and Forestry, CAU, Pasighat, Arunachal Pradesh.
The training programme is conducted as a part of the 'Popularization of onion and garlic cultivation among Tribal Farmers' project under NEH component of ICAR- DOGR, Pune.
Addressing the programme, Assistant Professor and Course Director, Department of Horticulture ,COA,CAU Imphal, Dr Ps Mariam Anal has expressed that a large sum of money can be saved if the State becomes self sufficient in terms of onion and garlic production.

Maintaining that onion and garlic is widely used and has multiple benefits, he stated that it will enhance the State's economy if the farmers focus on large scale production of fresh and organic onion and garlic.
The training programme is aimed at raising awareness on the scope and importance of onion-garlic cultivation in a beneficial manner, he added.
Around 40 farmers attended the training programme where resource persons and experts spoke on different topics in connection with the programme.
Dean, COA, CAU Imphal, Professor L Nabachandra Singh; PI and Head of Department of Vegetable Science, CHF ,CAU Pasighat, Professor Chandra Deo; Head of Department of Horticulture, COA, CAU Imphal, Professor AK Bijaya Devi also attended the programme as the presidium members.
