More intense stir mulled

A public meeting conducted in connection with the alleged controversial death of Md Rashid Ahemad (37) today at Mayai Keithel Community Hall in Thoubal district has resolved to launch more intense forms of agitation if the perpetrators responsible are not apprehended within 48 hours.
It may be noted that Md Rashid Ahemad's dead body was found in allegedly mysterious circumstances at Yambem PHC on October 6 .
Shedding light on the mysterious death of Md Rashid Ahemad who hails from Mayai Keithel, Wahida, his sister-in-law, claimed that the deceased used to live at the residence of one Manglembi at Nongpok Keithelmanbi for around 10 years before he got married.
However, after marriage, he returned home for good, she said.
One day Malemnganbi visited their home and urged Md Rashid Ahemad to come back and help her as she was facing some hardships, Wahida claimed.
Following this, Md Rashid Ahemad left for Malemnganbi's house on October 4, she alleged.
Wahida claimed that since that day, the family was unable to directly communicate with Md Rashid Ahemad as their calls either went unanswered or his phone was switched off.
During these circumstances, the family received a call on October 6 from Yambem PHC informing them that Md Rashid Ahemad's dead body was at the health centre, she continued to add.
Expressing suspicions of foul play, she beseeched the relevant authorities and Chief Minister N Biren Singh to dole out appropriate punishment to the culprits involved in the alleged controversial death of Md Rashid Ahemad.
Notably, 'JAC Against the Killing of Md Rashid Ahemad @ Sanayai of Mayai Keithel' was also formed during the meeting along with the passing of several resolutions.
Some of the resolutions include to launch intense agitations if the relevant authority does not apprehend the perpetrators within 48 hours; to ensure that a representative from the JAC and a magistrate is present during the post mortem procedure; to refrain from taking back the mortal remains of the deceased until the case has been solved and to seek the support of CSOs, local clubs etc.
Local clubs, associations and meira paibi organisations from Phanjakhong, Chandrakhong, Ningel, Kakmayai, Malom, Khoirom, Jaliyangbi, Heitroipokpi, Pitra as well as Kh Sobha, Member nominee of Wangkhem Zilla Parishad, Salam Kumar, Pradhan nominee, Leirongthel Ningel Gram Panchayat, B Phainom village chief, many ward members and representatives of Villages Committee Progressive Committee (VCPC) Manipur were present at the public meeting.
The gathering also observed a minute of silence in honour of the deceased.
