Three vehicle lifters arrested

Three members of a vehicle lifting gang including the leader have been arrested by a joint team of special commando unit, Khabeisoi and Irilbung police station.
The arrested persons have been identified as Pangabam Dinesh (31), son of late Jadumani of Kongba Uchekon; Amakcham Samson (30), son of Paka of Kongba Uchekon Laikol and Kelvin Leishangthem (23), son of late Ashok of Wangkhei Thangjam Leikai.
Among the arrested trio, Dinesh is said to be leader of the gang.
According to a police source, the police team led by special commando OC subedar L Vivekananda conducted search operation near Standard College, Kongba from 3.10 pm on Thursday upon getting information about presence of a vehicle lifting gang in the area.
The operation conducted in the vicinity in the water supply tank located near Standard College led to the arrest of Dinesh, who confessed that he is the leader of a gang involved in lifting two-wheelers from Imphal city area and sold them to one Azad Khan of Lilong Turel Ahanbi.
Dinesh also disclosed that he along with Samson and Kelvin had stolen many two-wheelers from greater Imphal area.
Later, the joint police team arrested Kelvin from his house at about 4.10pm on the same day while Kelvin surrendered to the special commando unit, Khabeisoi and formally arrested around 4.30 pm.
All the arrested persons have been handed over to Irilbung police station for necessary action.
